Flushing is not a simple task. The flushing fluid must be the right product
and used at the right
temperature and flow rates to assure cleanliness and passivation.

New component, part, and pump warranties can
be voided if a proper flushing was not accomplished before
commissioning the new parts. |
Flushing Fluids - Great care must be taken in choosing the
solutions used to flush a system. Specific products must be used to
accomplish the preparation of the internal surfaces according to the use of
the system.
Fluid Temperatures - The proper fluid temperature is necessary to
assure contaminates are softened to the point they will detach from their
hiding places and be carried to the filtration media.
Flow Rates - High flow rates are necessary to dislodge foreign
particles and have them carried away by the flushing fluid.
Passivation - This is where the bare materials are treated so that
they have an initial reaction to the metals of the walls of tubes and
reservoir so that an oxide patina can form to shield the metal from unwanted
chemical reactions later.
If flushed properly, a hydraulic system starts off with no contaminates to
foul the system later.

At this point it would prudent for the client to examine the
F.I.V.E. Program offered by FPI. This
program is a comprehensive plan to build quality and reliability into the fluid
power system for better performance with less downtime. This program offers a
way to sustain the fluid power system throughout the life cycle with improved
maintenance policies, sustained clean fluid, and systematic inspections. With
the system being broke open for flushing, it would be an excellent time to add the value for
future maintenance.
